Ingredients
Method
- Add the pureed blueberries and coconut oil to a small saucepan and place over low to medium heat.
- Stir gently until the coconut oil is fully melted, the mixture is smooth, and it is warmed through but not boiling.
- Sprinkle the agar-agar powder evenly over the warm blueberry mixture while whisking constantly to prevent clumps.
- Continue to cook, whisking, for 3 to 5 minutes until the agar-agar is completely dissolved and the mixture thickens slightly and looks glossy.
- If using honey, whisk it into the hot mixture until fully combined.
- Remove the pan from heat and let the mixture cool for 2 to 3 minutes until it is warm but no longer piping hot.
- Carefully pour the mixture into silicone molds or a shallow glass dish set on a tray for easy handling.
- Gently tap the molds or dish on the counter to release any air bubbles and smooth the surface.
- Transfer to the refrigerator and chill for 1 to 2 hours, or until the gummies are fully set and springy to the touch.
- If using a glass dish, lift out the set sheet and cut it into small, bite sized cubes suitable for your dog.
- Store the gummies in an airtight container in the refrigerator and use within 5 to 7 days.
Notes
- Always let the gummies come to room temperature for a few minutes before serving, especially for dogs with sensitive teeth.
- Do not use xylitol or sweetened, flavored yogurt or syrups, as these can be harmful to dogs.
- Start with 1 to 2 small gummies per day for a medium dog and adjust based on your vet’s advice and your dog’s size and diet.
- You can line the glass dish with parchment paper for easier removal before slicing.
- Discard gummies if they develop an off smell, color, or texture.
