Ingredients

Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup pureed blueberries fresh or frozen, blended until smooth
  • 1/4 cup coconut oil
  • 2 tablespoons unflavored agar-agar powder
  • 1 tablespoon honey optional, only for dogs without blood sugar issues

Method

  1. Place the coconut oil in a small saucepan and warm it over low heat until fully melted, without letting it sizzle or smoke.
  2. While the oil warms, puree the blueberries in a blender or food processor until completely smooth.
  3. Stir the blueberry puree into the warm melted coconut oil until the mixture is evenly combined and purple in color.
  4. Sprinkle the unflavored agar-agar powder evenly over the surface of the warm blueberry coconut mixture.
  5. Whisk immediately and continuously until no dry agar-agar remains and the mixture looks smooth.
  6. If using honey, add it to the saucepan and whisk until fully dissolved and the mixture is glossy and pourable.
  7. Keep the saucepan over low heat and whisk for 3 to 5 minutes, without boiling, until the agar-agar is completely dissolved and the mixture is uniform.
  8. Remove the saucepan from the heat and carefully pour the mixture into silicone molds or a shallow glass dish.
  9. Let the filled molds or dish cool at room temperature for 15 to 20 minutes, until no longer hot.
  10. Transfer the molds or dish to the refrigerator and chill for 30 to 40 minutes, or until the gummies are firm and spring back when gently pressed.
  11. Once fully set, remove the gummies from the molds or, if using a dish, loosen the edges and cut the sheet into bite-sized pieces.
  12. Store the gummies in an airtight container in the refrigerator and serve a few pieces at a time as a special treat.

Notes

- Store gummies in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 5 to 7 days.
- For easier storage, layer gummies between small pieces of parchment paper to prevent sticking.
- For longer storage, freeze gummies on a lined tray until solid, then transfer to a freezer-safe bag or container.
- Always introduce new treats gradually and adjust portion size based on your dog’s size and overall diet.
- Do not use honey for dogs with diabetes or blood sugar issues; the recipe sets well without it.
