Ingredients
Method
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Lightly steam the broccoli florets until just tender, then cool and finely chop; pat dry with a paper towel.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the whole wheat flour, rolled oats, and baking powder.
- In a separate bowl, whisk the egg, chicken broth, and peanut butter until smooth.
- Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until mostly combined.
- Add the chopped broccoli and mix until a soft, slightly sticky dough forms that holds together when pressed.
- Lightly flour a work surface, turn the dough out, and knead 4 to 5 times until smooth.
- Roll the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness.
- Cut into small shapes or bite sized squares with a knife or cookie cutters.
- Arrange the pieces on the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between each treat.
- Bake for 18 to 20 minutes, until the edges are lightly golden and the centers feel firm.
- Let the treats cool completely on a wire rack before serving to your dog.
Notes
- Never use peanut butter that contains xylitol, added sugar, or artificial sweeteners; these are toxic to dogs.
- Store cooled treats in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
- For crisper treats, let them sit on a wire rack for 2 to 3 hours after baking before storing.
- Freeze cooled treats in a freezer bag for up to 2 months; thaw a few at room temperature before serving.
