Crafting Apple & Ginger Dog Treats: A Delicious DIY Recipe

Ingredients
  

  • 1 ½ cups whole wheat flour
  • ½ cup rolled oats
  • 1 large apple peeled, cored, finely grated
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 –3 tbsp unsweetened applesauce
  • 1 –3 tbsp water as needed
  • ½ tsp fresh grated ginger OR ¼ tsp ginger powder

Method
 

  1. 1. Preheat oven to 325°F.
  2. 2. Peel, core, and finely grate the apple; squeeze out excess liquid.
  3. 3. In a bowl, mix flour and oats.
  4. 4. Add grated apple, ginger, applesauce, and egg; stir to form dough.
  5. 5. Add water as needed until dough is soft but not sticky.
  6. 6. Roll dough to ¼ inch thickness; cut into shapes or drop spoonfuls.
  7. 7. Place treats on a lined baking tray, 1 inch apart.
  8. 8. Bake for 18–25 minutes until golden.
  9. 9. Cool completely before serving.

Notes

Never use xylitol—it’s toxic to dogs!
Store in an airtight container for up to 1 week.
