Method
- 1. Wash the apple and carrot thoroughly and remove the apple’s seeds and core. Grate or puree both ingredients.
- 2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour and rolled oats. Mix well.
- 3. In a separate bowl, whisk the egg and stir in the applesauce, grated apple, and carrot.
- 4. Gradually mix the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until a sticky dough forms.
- 5. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead it until smooth. Roll the dough out to about 1/4-inch thickness.
- 6. Using a cookie cutter, cut out the desired shapes and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- 7. Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C) and bake the treats for 30–35 minutes, or until golden brown and hard.
- 8. For extra crunch, leave the treats in the oven for an additional hour after turning it off.
- 9. Let the treats cool completely before storing or serving to your dog.
Notes
Store in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks or freeze for up to 3 months.
For grain-free options, use gluten-free flour instead of whole wheat flour.
Make sure the apple is completely seed-free, as seeds can be harmful to dogs.
Cut treats into smaller pieces for puppies or small dogs.
