Ingredients

Ingredients
  • 1 lb lean ground beef 90/10 or leaner
  • 1/2 cup carrots finely grated or processed into a pulp
  • 1/2 cup spinach finely chopped or wilted and squeezed dry
  • 1/2 cup cooked white rice cooled
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/4 tsp dried parsley optional

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Add the lean ground beef to a large bowl and break it up with a fork or clean hands.
  3. Add the grated carrots, chopped spinach, and cooled cooked white rice to the bowl and mix to distribute evenly.
  4. Add the egg, olive oil, and dried parsley, then mix with clean hands until the mixture is uniform and slightly sticky but holds together.
  5. Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking sheet and shape it into a firm, even log about 8–9 inches long, pressing out any air pockets.
  6. Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 30 minutes, or until the roll is cooked through and no pink remains in the center.
  7. Remove the sausage roll from the oven and let it cool completely on a rack before slicing.
  8. Slice into rounds or smaller pieces and serve as a treat or mix a portion into your dog’s regular food.

Notes

- Always let the sausage roll cool completely before serving to your dog to avoid mouth burns.
- Store leftover slices in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3–4 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
- For a special occasion, stand the roll upright and top with dog-safe plain yogurt as a “cake.”
- Never use onions, garlic, salt, or seasonings containing xylitol in dog treats.
