Ingredients

  • 1 cup canned pumpkin puree plain, no added sugar or spices
  • 1/2 cup natural peanut butter xylitol-free
  • 1 egg optional
  • 3 cups whole wheat flour or gluten-free alternative like oat flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon optional
  • A drizzle of honey optional
  • Water as needed

Method

  1. 1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
  2. 2. In a medium-sized bowl, combine pumpkin puree and natural peanut butter until well mixed. Add egg if using.
  3. 3. In a separate bowl, combine flour and cinnamon (if using). Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture, stirring.
  4. 4. Add water if dough is too dry. Knead on a lightly floured surface until firm and pliable.
  5. 5. Roll dough into 6-inch-long ropes and twist into spirals.
  6. 6. Place twists on baking sheet and bake for 25-30 minutes until golden-brown.
  7. 7. Cool completely before serving.

Notes

Ensure peanut butter is xylitol-free, as xylitol is toxic to dogs.
For a crunchier texture, let treats cool in the oven with the door slightly ajar.
Substitute whole wheat flour with oat flour for a gluten-free option.
