Sardine & Catnip Crunch Treats: Dog-Approved Delights!

These nutritious homemade dog treats combine protein-rich sardines with a tiny amount of dog-safe catnip for aroma and flavor. Crunchy, easy to make, and freezer-friendly!

Ingredients
  

  • 1 can sardines in water 5 oz, drained
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tbsp plain Greek yogurt or unsweetened applesauce
  • 1 ½ cups oat flour
  • ½ cup rolled oats
  • 1 tsp dried dog-safe catnip
  • Optional: 1 tbsp chopped parsley
  • Optional: ½ tsp turmeric

Method
 

  1. 1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. 2. Drain sardines and mash with a fork until flaky.
  3. 3. In a bowl, combine oat flour, rolled oats, dried catnip, parsley, and turmeric.
  4. 4. In another bowl, whisk mashed sardines, egg, and yogurt or applesauce.
  5. 5. Mix wet ingredients into dry ingredients until a thick dough forms.
  6. 6. If dough is too thick, add 1 tbsp water; if too sticky, add more oat flour.
  7. 7. Roll dough into small balls and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  8. 8. Flatten slightly with a fork.
  9. 9. Bake for 20 minutes until golden and crunchy.
  10. 10. Cool completely on a wire rack.

Notes

Never use sardines in oil or sauce due to added calories and salt.
Store in an airtight container for up to 1 week or freeze for 3 months.
