Ingredients

Ingredients
  • 1 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/2 cup plain unflavored agar-agar powder
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup pure beet juice
  • 1 tablespoon xylitol-free peanut butter optional

Method

  1. Add the applesauce, agar-agar powder, and water to a small saucepan.
  2. Whisk the mixture vigorously until the agar-agar is fully dispersed and no dry clumps remain.
  3. Place the saucepan over low to medium-low heat.
  4. Cook, whisking constantly, for 3 to 5 minutes until the mixture looks glossy and slightly thickened.
  5. Remove the saucepan from the heat.
  6. Stir in the beet juice until the color is evenly distributed.
  7. If using peanut butter, whisk it into the warm mixture until fully blended.
  8. Carefully pour the warm mixture into silicone molds or a lightly greased shallow glass dish.
  9. Tap the molds or dish gently on the counter to release any air bubbles.
  10. Transfer the filled molds or dish to the refrigerator.
  11. Chill for about 45 minutes, or until the gummies are fully set and bouncy to the touch.
  12. Remove the gummies from the molds, or cut them into small pieces if set in a dish, and store refrigerated until serving.

Notes

- Use only unsweetened applesauce with no spices, sugar, or artificial sweeteners.
- Never use peanut butter containing xylitol, as it is toxic to dogs.
- Store gummies in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 7 days.
- For longer storage, freeze in a single layer, then transfer to a freezer bag and use within 2 months.
