Ingredients

Ingredients
  • 1 medium carrot about 80 g, cooked and mashed
  • 1 handful fresh spinach steamed and finely chopped (about 20 g)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 1/2 cups oat flour about 150 g
  • 1/4 cup water 60 ml, plus 1 to 2 teaspoons more if needed for consistency

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and lightly grease or line a small rectangular baking pan, about 8 by 8 inches.
  2. Place the cooked carrot in a medium bowl and mash until smooth with no large chunks.
  3. Stir the finely chopped, steamed spinach into the mashed carrot until evenly combined.
  4. Add the egg and mix until the vegetables are fully coated and the mixture looks smooth.
  5. Add the oat flour and stir until a thick dough begins to form.
  6. Slowly pour in the water, mixing just until you have a thick, spreadable batter that holds its shape on a spoon.
  7. Scrape the mixture into the prepared pan and spread it into an even layer, smoothing the top with a spatula.
  8. Bake for 22 to 25 minutes, until the center feels firm to the touch and looks dry, not wet or glossy.
  9. Remove the pan from the oven and let the bars cool completely in the pan on a rack.
  10. Once cool, lift out and cut into 12 small bars or squares, sized appropriately for your dog.

Notes

- Store cooled bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, or refrigerate for up to 7 days.
- For longer storage, freeze bars for up to 2 months and thaw a piece at room temperature before serving.
- Always adjust bar size to your dog’s size and chewing ability, and feed as a treat, not a full meal.
- Consult your veterinarian before introducing new treats if your dog has food sensitivities or medical conditions.
- Never add salt, sugar, chocolate, xylitol, onions, garlic, or seasonings to dog treats.
